Obtaining a Hunting License in New Jersey

Note: This is only for those obtaining a hunter's license for the FIRST time.

1. Visit a sporting goods store and pick up two items:

   a. NJ Division of Fish & Wildlife Hunter Education Study Guide & Workbook.

   b. Hunter Education DVD 

2. Read the Study Guide and Watch the DVD. Then answer the questions in the back of the workbook. 

3. Sign up for a Hunter's Education class; bring your completed workbook to the class.

Register for Hunter Education Field Sessions and Exams!  

Most hunting in New Jersey is done with a shotgun. At the Hunter's Education Class you will need to prove competency with a shotgun hitting 2 out of 5 clay pigeons.

Youth Licenses

All hunter education/bear seminar applicants MUST BE AT LEAST 10 YEARS OF AGE to register for and attend a class.

At the Hunter Education Field Sessions, young people must also show competency with the shotgun they will use for huntig.
