Mini-Classes

Mini classes cover a variety of firearm related topics. These mini classes are NON-NRA and subsequently, NO NRA certificate is given.

Each class has a set time and the identified cost covers instructions / demonstrations for the set time. Additional charges are incurred once the set time is exceeded. 

The mini-classes can be scheduled to meet your schedule.  Weekends or weekdays up to 9pm. Call (862-268-4888) or email (ken.distefano@gmail.com) with information for the deposit. We take PayPal as well as major credit cards.


Firearm Cleaning

Duration: 1.5 hours for each firearm

Cost: $60.00; $25.00 deposit

Note: This is a hands-on class not a demonstration. Students can bring their own firearm(s) or one will be provided.

In this mini class the following topics are covered:

1. Examples of quality cleaning equipment and materials are provided. These can be used to clean the firearm(s).

  • Cleaning Rods
  • Bore Brushes
  • Nylon Brushes
  • Swabs
  • Plastic Picks
  • Solvent
  • Lubricant

2. Doing a basic field strip, students will disassemble their firearm(s) and identify parts to be cleaned.

3. Clean firearm(s) parts

4. Re-assemble firearm(s)

5. Verify functions of firearm using snap caps

6. Try firing techniques

7. Correcting / fixing firearm jams.

 Reloading Considerations

 Duration 1.5 hours

Cost: $60; $25 deposit

Many gun enthusiasts often give thought to reloading but are not sure of the set up and operational costs. This class provides students with an opportunity to see and use popular reloading equipment and componets. The class also provides starter lists that the beginning reloader can use to obtain the necessary materials.

NOTE: This class does NOT teach reloading; it simply provides the student with the opportunity to see up close reloading equipment -- presses, dies, scales, etc as well as the components needed for reloading.

In this mini-class the following topics are covered:

1. Reloading equipment

  • Presses
  • Dies
  • Scales
  • Measuring instruments
    • Calipers
    • Redding Instant Indicator
    • RCBS Precision Mic
    • Concentricity tools
  • Reloading components
  • Cleaning / trimming brass
  • Gauges

 2. The reloading process

Discussion of each step in the reloading process and the equipment / components needed for each step.

 3. The Getting Started List

 Reviews a comprehensive list that can be used by the beginning reloader. This list will also be provided in soft copy for modifications.

 4. The advantages of safe reloading

Discussion / demonstration on how to ensure your reloads are safe and ways to possibly impove accuracy. Well made ammo does improve accuracy.

Sights & Scopes

 Duration 2 hours

Cost: $75.00; $25.00 deposit

This mini class covers sights and scopes. The cost and duration paramaters apply to one firearm -- rifle, pistol or shotgun. Students can bring more than one firearm and the cost / duration is adjusted accordingly.

Students can bring scope(s) or sight(s) for instatllation on their firearm(s) or they can learn from the set up on my rifles and handguns.

Wheeler Engineery tools (Professional Recticle Leveling System, Scope Ring Alignment Tool, Professional Laser Bore Sight)  as well as the Maryland Gun Works Sight Pro Installation tools (handgun sights) are available for student's use.

In this mini-class the following topics are covered:

 1. Considerations for selecting a scope / sights.

     a. Platform

     b. Rings

     c. Types of Scopes 

     d. Types of sights, e.g TruGlo, Trijicon, etc.

 2. Tools available to assist

     a. Wheeler Engineering Tools

     b. MGW Sight Pro

     c. LaserLyte Laser Trainer system

     d. Tipton Best Gun Vise

 3. Bore sighting - what it is and how's it done.

 4. Set scope / sights on firearm(s)

 5. Bore sight scope / sights 

 6. Test, if possible, using LaserLyte Laser Trainer system.

Introduction to the Basics of Self-defense and Holster selection

 Duration 2 hours

Cost $75.00; $25 deposit

This mini-class is an introduction to the Basics of Self-defense using a handgun. Range time is available for an additional charge. 

Topics Covered:

1. Developing a Personal Protection Plan.

   a. Stages of Awareness

   b. Observing your environment

2. Shooting fundamentals for defensive accuracy

    a. Learn concepts and shooting techniques specific           to defensive training.

3. Necessary Equipment

    a. Selection the holster -- considerations

    b. Practice drawing the correct way

    c. Belts and other add ons (mag holders)

4. Required Reading and Viewing

    a. Critical books and videos are identified and           discussed.

Students can request discussions / demonstrations not specficially identified under each class. These requests will be addressed individually prior to the payment of the deposit.

Bringing another person provides a $10 discount for each.
